BESSS Interview – 22- 05-2021
1- How do you define yourself? How do you define your projects?
Besss, graphic designer but also graffiti artist, I have been practicing my art since 1995, and I combine it with my expertise as a graphic designer in order to offer original and graphic works.

2- How did you start working on street art?
I started doing graffiti, I started in 1995 in the region of Grenoble (FRANCE)
3- Where do you find the inspiration to create your projects? Are they modifiers of urban space?
I am inspired by the place, the texture of the walls, the material, I make a location before putting myself on the model of the project. Then I do my research with photos, montages, etc …
4- What does Street Art represent for you in this constantly changing world?
Street art has 2 meanings for me, either we take it in its literary sense, or as in certain cases, as a business, a fashion, personally I am more considered as a graffiti artist, I come from there by passion above all, at the time we were only talking about graffiti.
But thanks to this, our art is recognized in the world, so that’s a good thing.
5- Do you think Street Art should be legal or should it continue to be a form of art pursued by the police? Have you ever had problems?
It goes back to what I was saying just before. In fact street art for me is a kind of fashion, where some people have seen it as a big business. But when it comes to graffiti, we tend to be more discreet, except the day we talk to you about “Street Art”, and it gets complicated. Because graffiti is basically illegal art, so being a street artist doesn’t give you the right to tag anywhere.

Regarding the problems, let’s say that sometimes it is better not to sign today with his nickname at the time. (laughs)
6- How long does it usually take to prepare each project?
I work rather methodically, I don’t really like improvising. My job as a graphic designer taught me to make rather realistic models so that the client does not have any surprises. So some projects can go from 1 week to 1 month when I also work on the graphic part of the project type store, restaurant etc …
